The Sony does not stream this yet. I was waiting to purchase a blu-ray player until. I m thinkin when they re cheaper, when the discs themselves are cheaper, when. Well, having Netlix built-in took away all my hesitation. I m a little disappointed that 1 audio isn t yet available on Netflix downloads, but since I m not paying any extra on Netflix anyway for the convenience of streaming movies, I m more than satisfied. Until the sound quality thing is rectified, I ll keep ordering discs directly when sound matters the most in the quality of the movie experience. I m thinking that movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind deserve the 1 treatment more than movies like Lars and the Single Girl. Set-up was easy enough. I didn t need any calls to tech support at all. Pretty painless if you follow the directions included. Use of the player menu is also pretty intuitive, so if reading directions is your last choice, you should be fine. Internet access is hard-wired for our install. We have wireless, but the house is also hardwired with an ethernet port right next to the player, so it didn t make sense to get a wireless adapter for the player. We also have consistently good access speeds, so don t suffer video dropouts like some people have reported. I guess what I m saying is that in my experience, if you re having problems, I wouldn t think it would be the player, but your connection. So far, Time Warner Cable has come through. So for me, the tipping point in purchase of the Blu-Ray player was the addition of streaming video access. The price was more than right too! Pros: Super easy to set up, does everything it claims to do, good remote with strong signal, easy intuitive menu navigation, smooth streaming of internet content, broad selection of internet content compared to stable competing consumer devices, flawless firmware update, great picture and sound quality, smart timing of screensaver/power off Cons: Could use a broader internet service selection Pandora, , Blockbuster, Hulu, Fancast would be great additions are you listening, Sony?, wireless isn t included but if you want a reliable connection, you want wired anyway, no preview on fast forward or rewind I don t own any Blu-Ray discs yet, so I can only comment on DVD, SVCD, Audio CD, streaming content, and USB. On all of those, this device has worked flawlessly for me. If you have issues with your streaming, it s probably either your connection or your provider. Try a clean wired connection with an up-to-date router/switch and most likely your issues will disappear, unless your provider has over-provisioned your area or is throttling your bandwidth. I ve watched many hours of streaming video various content providers, including several dozen hours of Netflix, some Sony, YouTube, and others, and have had 2 jaggy blips within one minute of one program and otherwise both video and audio have been flawless. It s far and away more reliable than Comcast OnDemand. I m considering cancelling my cable TV subscription and just going with streaming and discs. YouTube streaming is great for kids or for parties, because you can keep going from one video to the next in a search or subscription, so set up a search for the little one to watch a bunch of Muppets clips or set up a stream from your favorite DJ and you re good to go. The process of setting up the Sony and Netflix content might be a little irritating if your BDP-N460 and computer are far apart, because you do have to do a little back and forth between the player and computer, but it should be less than a minute each not counting travel time to get from one to the other, and you only have to do it once. If you can, set up the device with a wired connection, connected to a TV, close to your computer, and get the firmware update out of the way, then set up content providers, then set up wireless if you re going to use it, then move the device wherever it will stay and set up your audio/video/other preferences. It will go a lot faster that way and you won t be frustrated by having to activate the device on Netflix twice or by your wireless connection going down when you re trying to update your firmware. For those of you leery of firmware updates due to bad experiences in the past, don t sweat this one. It s smooth and quick, as long as your power and network connection are stable. Summary: for me, this is primarily a streaming device that also happens to play DVDs, BDs, and CDs. With a wired connection and stable high-speed internet, it performs fabulously and is a lot of fun. I would recommend it to a friend without hesitation. I have this player hooked up to a Samsung 46 1080p LCD, via HDMI the method you want for highest quality. I got this player after returning an LG BD370, which I had problems with. I m very happy with the video quality from this player, Blu-Rays look wonderful have watched 6 or 7 as of this review, and DVD upscaling is very good, though not amazing but, I rarely watch DVDs, so for me it s great. I really like how it automatically switches to 1080/24 if the Blu-Ray movie playing supports that, as my TV does, and it s nice to not have to manually change settings before watching a movie. Blu-Ray load times are pretty good, average or slightly faster than average for players in this price range. I have now streamed several shows/movies through Netflix and watched videos on Youtube no problems or drops at all. The quality seems to be the same as streaming Netflix through my Xbox 360, which is to say quite good! I also streamed the movie 9 through Amazon Video On Demand, and that was a great experience, as well. I haven t really bothered with the other internet content providers, as none of them appeal to me.
